LOS ANGELES, CA. Feb. 8 (DPI) – A hatred of law enforcement and distrust of authority generally appear to be driving substantial numbers of anonymous posters to write sympathetically of Christopher Dorner, the former LAPD cop who has shot and killed three innocent people and is still on the loose.
Dorner’s killing spree has triggered a two-state manhunt, and put alleged targets — police and their families across the region — on edge.
Dorner was terminated by LAPD in 2008, reportedly because he blew the whistle that a supervisor used excessive force on an individual. Moreover, after Dorner began his shooting spree last week — in which he killed the daughter of a lawyer who defended him in his termination — police in one jurisdiction mistakenly opened on fire on a car they believed belonged to the suspect, wounding two, one seriously.
These factors have combined to spur many posters to suggest that LAPD now wants to kill Dorner as part of some cover-up of activities by what they see as a corrupt institution.
Even online, though, cooler minds are weighing in — and calling out the conspiracy theorists.
One post today on NYTimes. com: “There’s something to be said for a story of someone who is ostracized and then takes on a corrupt institution. It’s a fairy tale, but sometimes fairy tales twinkle into existence.
“But not this time. This guy started out by killing the civilian daughter of the police lawyer who *defended* him in court and her fiance–who obviously had nothing to do with whatever happened to him whatsoever. Under no circumstances is that a noble act. He’s violently deranged.
Stop defending him.”
Another NYTimes.com post: “I truly cannot believe many of the comments on this article. Are you not paying attention? There is so much focus on the veracity of Mr. Dorner’s version of his termination, when the crucial issue at this time, is that he has published an “enemies” list, loaded up with a veritable arsenal, and is hunting down people he has perceived have harmed him. One of those people he has murdered was the daughter of the attorney who defended him in his termination hearing. How can that girl possibly have been a participant in his being “wronged”?
“Have you never been “wronged” before? I have. Have you published a list of targets, then taken up multiple weapons with the intent of inflicting as much harm as you possibly can? I haven’t. This man has made a choice to commit unspeakable violence against persons he perceives have inflicted damage against his name, and relatives of those persons. Are his actions in any way restoring his good name?
“Those sympathizing with his actions, and blaming LAPD, really need to carefully examine their thought processes, and ask themselves if Mr. Dorner’s actions, are in any way befitting his perceived defamation. What he has, and is doing, is a choice he made. Nobody forced him to take these actions.”
