Francona Likely to Join GM Epstein at Chicago Cubs

WASHINGTON, D.C. Oct. 25 (DPI Sports) — Terry Francona, the Boston Red Sox manager who led the team to two World Series titles and was unceremoniously fired earlier this month following the team’s late-season collapse, will likely join his old General Manager Theo Epstein at the Chicago Cubs.

Fox Sports reports that “anywhere between eight and 10 (managerial) jobs are in play” during this off-season. The Cubs post — currently help by Mike Quade — may be vacated before the World Series is decided.

According to a report today, Epstein said he would make a decision on the status of Quade “in the next week or so.” Quade has a year remaining on his contract.

Epstein has made several favorable comments about Francona since Francona’s dismissal earlier this month.
