NYT Readers Push Back At Suggestion Kamala Harris’s Unpopularity is Biden’s Fault

NEW YORK, NY July 25 (DPI) – The NYT published a commentary by a presidential historian who asserted that Kamala Harris’s poor standing is mostly a function of Joe Biden not grooming her properly.

But readers, to a great degree, produced another narrative, primarily focused on Harris herself being either unprepared or unsuited to the job.

The historian, New York writer Jeffrey Frank, has written biographies on presidents and vice presidents, so he gave some perspective on the natural tension between the roles that Biden and Harris now occupy.

And while readers generally acknowledged Frank’s historical perspective, all of the most popular comments – of more than 1,900 comments – reflected a sentiment that Harris has proven she’s in over her head and shouldn’t be Biden’s successor.

The most popular comment, followed by several other popular comments:

Why the Biden team picked Harris for VP is a mystery to me and millions of others. He didn’t need help in winning California, and Harris’s career to that point had been mediocre…and continues to be so as VP. Picking an African-American woman was an important move, but Biden would have been better off going with Val Demings from Florida — a congresswoman and former police commissioner from Florida, a state he needed help in, or Susan Rice, an experienced foreign affairs envoy with global contacts. Either one would have been far more able qualified to fill-in as president than Harris were something to happen to Biden.

Kamala Harris has failed to distinguish herself in the various roles she has been given. For example, on immigration she never even bothered to go to the border for a photo opportunity showing her concern. Her public speaking skills would probably be ranked at a C- level in a high school debate. Maybe the primary voters knew a lot more than given credit for when they rejected her out of hand.

Perhaps Ms Harris’ failure to rise to any level of any significance as VP is simply a measure of her abilities, or lack of thereof. Personally, as either a policy maker or as a politician, I think her skills are severely wanting.

Kamala Harris is a non-entity. The fact that Biden picked her primarily because of parental background and nice smile is depressing to say the least. The Dems have to look elsewhere for leadership. The President looks frail, sometimes confused, still making numerous off-the-cuff gaffs. Harris is a non-starter. The Republicans have DeSantis teed up since Trump, thankfully, will be too wounded to run. The Democrats have to go younger, smarter, and bolder.
