More Than 10k Comments Accompany Report That Trump Made “Promise” to Foreign Leader

WASHINGTON, D.C. Sept. 19 (DPI) – The Washington Post is leading this morning with a nebulous but troubling report that Trump made a private – but apparently nationally strategic – promise to a foreign leader in a telephone conversation, a gesture that has deeply concerned the intelligence community.

Details of the “promise” – what exactly it was, and to whom it was made – is still not clear, and the absence of such basic information allows for the possibility that The Washington Post is being used by some of Trump’s many enemies in Washington to discredit him and raise questions about his loyalties further, if that’s possible.

Hearings by the House Intelligence Committee on Capitol Hill today may yield more about what actually happened. In any case it will be interesting to see if the report will become something more than a partisan political weapon for Democrats and for Trump’s many enemies.

From The Post this morning:

Trump’s interaction with the foreign leader included a “promise” that was regarded as so troubling that it prompted an official in the U.S. intelligence community to file a formal whistleblower complaint with the inspector general for the intelligence community, said the former officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

The comment board attached to the Post report saw more than 10,000 comments posted in less than 12 hours. And comments – which largely accepted the report as fact – focused on whom the foreign leader was, and how quickly the new information, originating from a whistleblower complaint, can be used in an impeachment proceeding against Trump. Readers also posted many reminders of the importance of a free and independent press.

Among the most popular comments:

Good god. Proof of what we have all known. Trump is a traitor.
Time to Impeach, Pelosi.  NOW. Thank you to this patriot whistleblower for their service, ethics, morals, and sense of duty to our country.

I miss having a President who was loyal to the United States of America. Like one of the other 44.

Sounds like it might be a high crime or misdemeanor…
