Wendy’s Plans Self-Serve Kiosks to Reduce Impact of $15 Minimum Wage Laws

WASHINGTON, D.C. May 16 (DPI) – Several conservative sites are reporting that Wendy’s plans to raise prices and open self-service kiosks in all of its 6,000 restaurants, as states like California and New York hike their minimum hourly wage to $15. Ordinarily such a report would be big news – trumpeted on all the networks and major newspapers – but its absence from the mainstream media this week re-confirms the supporting role they play for the left’s bigger policy objectives.

They are objectives that may backfire if jobs are eliminated and unemployment rises, economists say.

The current federal minimum is $7.25 an hour – not a living wage of course – and the minimum-wage law remains a hot topic on the campaign trail this year.

But workers receiving $7.25 an hour today represent only 3.9% of the US workforce, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. What’s more, such workers are predominantly under 25 years old, and minimum wage jobs continue to be identified as a way for first-time workers to enter the workforce.
