Readers Square Off Over Deflategate as NFL Upholds Brady’s Suspension

NEW YORK, NY July 29 (DPI) – Readers who identified themselves as fans of the New England Patriots cried foul this week as the National Football League upheld a 4-game suspension of Patriot QB Tom Brady for his apparent role in deflating footballs for a playoff game.

Patriot fans were inclined to believe that the NFL “has nothing on” Brady since the star QB provided the league with no evidence that he directly participated in a scheme to deflate footballs during the first half of the AFC Championship game last January.

Brady destroyed his cell phone, which contained more than 10,000 messages, in the days following the game and revelations of deflating footballs came to light. The outside lawyer investigating the incident, Ted Wells, said he and his investigators weren’t even told of the destroyed cell phone until June, at the time of the league’s hearing on the matter.

Because of collective bargaining and the loose organization of independently own teams, the league lacks authority over clubs or players to cite or charge them with withholding or destroying evidence of infractions of league rules.

While much of Patriot Nation, in New England and beyond, have rallied around Brady and defended him, other readers smell a rat. The most popular comments yesterday reflected a widespread suspicion that Brady cheated, and knew it.

The NFLPA would be prudent in finding some pretext to run out of this particular room. Nobody destroys an old cellphone just because they purchased a new one. Most of us, if we’re changing platforms, transfer our phone data from the old to the new. What Brady did, or rather what he HAD SOMEONE ELSE DO BECAUSE HE’S A COWARD, is a stain the Patriots organization because of their owner’s gullibility. This makes Spygate look like a Boy Scout project.

An honorable man would have owned his mistakes, and for the sake of his team, mitigated the original offense before it became Deflategate. For anyone who lived through Nixon, Tom Brady’s lying eyes claiming complete innocence is disgusting, an emotion no leader should inspire. Clearly, Mr. Brady believes that all this is about him, not the team, not the league, not the game, but him. This is about football, and losing sight of that undermines the good which football encourages, like sportsmanship, fair play, and respect for one another and the rules. Tom Brady is a lying boy out of touch with the leadership he has tragically failed to exercise, from the beginning, because Tom wants to be exempt from the rules, the team, the league which made him a fortune. No matter what happens, his reputation is irreparably tarnished

“Why would Brady ever think that his phone might used in an investigation? Isn’t that unheard of?”

“My attorneys told me it was ok!”, even when it wasn’t, “So, now I’ve got plausible deniability!”

The whole thing reeks to high heaven.
The only upside is Brady will NEVER live it down – ever.
In fact, he seems to be digging himself a bigger hole with each comment.

Mr. Brady didn’t benefit from the possibly deflated footballs since he got better results in the second half. I suggest there was a conspiracy on the part of the Colts/Ravens to gain victory through the courts since an on-field victory was beyond their capability.
Were I Mr. Brady I would sue the NFL for monetary damages, take the award and walk away with a smile.
