Readers Slam Washington Post for Dredging Up Old German Stereotype

WASHINGTON, D.C. July 16 (DPI) – The Germans, who lead Europe today whether they like it or not, are getting smeared for being “cruel” to Greece, a narrative The Washington Post unabashedly trotted out on its web site today:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/europe/greece-bailout-revives-image-of-the-cruel-german/2015/07/16/bcf468d8-2a74-11e5-960f-22c4ba982ed4_story.html?hpid=z4

But readers, at least those responding on its comment board, by and large were having none of it. Reader comments – and particularly the “Most Liked” reader comments – suggested that Germany and its political leaders were hardly to blame for Greece asking for yet another bailout after Greece defaulted on a $1.8 billion payment two weeks ago to the IMF. The Mediterranean country of 11 million owes its creditors about $350 billion.

The top five “Most Liked” reader comments today:

Those cruel Germans, like cruel banks, like cruel payday lenders, like cruel auto dealers, like cruel credit card companies, like cruel the government on student loans, like cruel loan sharks, like the cruel government on taxes…. they expect you to cover your obligations.

The Greeks are notorious tax dodgers. They also have an unsustainable welfare state of their own making. And people want to blame the “cruel Germans” – Please

God forbid anyone actually having to pay back the money they borrowed. *Gasps*
The only people in this country perpetuating the “cruel German” stuff seems to be the WaPo. The Greeks and the people calling Germany cruel remind me of the political left in this country…borrow, borrow, borrow and never find a solution to their SPENDING problem. The Collective Liberal S.A. (Shopaholics Anonymous)

Germany should be heralded for their willingness to STILL work with Greece. Three bailouts in five years… that’s not being a victim, that’s being victim of your own demise.
Greece = Mismanagement, and one for the history books.

It is so unfair and unreasonable for Germany to expect the Greeks to finally grow up and act like mature adults, rather than continuing to act like a bunch of immature, self-indulgent adolecents throwing hissy fits and temper tantrums when they are told to act responsibly.
