Even NY Times Can’t Escape Hillary Clinton’s Baggage Problem as Readers Sneer

NEW YORK, NY April 21 (DPI) – Hillary Clinton’s nascent presidential campaign has been buffeted by harsh reader comments this week, reinforcing the notion that the 67-year-old former first lady is one of the most polarizing and controversial personalities in American politics today – and her prospects for the White House aren’t quite the slam-dunk much of her Democratic base seems to believe.

Even The New York Times, generally a bulwark of support for Clinton’s candidacy, can’t ignore the  backlash from readers, many of whom are mocking her already scripted campaign and her recent claims that she too is a populist. Here are today’s most popular reader comments:

The Clintons are now worth an estimated $136 million. That alone makes it hard to believe the “little guy” is top of mind. But more than that, Elizabeth Warren never announced she was a populist and then reminded people of what she’d done to support that image. She acted–and her actions were so extraordinary in today’s politics, by today’s standards, that people started paying a lot of attention.

I’ve never considered Hillary a populist….Elizabeth Warren definitely! I think Hillary’s trying too hard to be someone she really isn’t. She doesn’t come across as comfortable in her own skin.I don’t deny that she’s an intelligent person and driven but she does not come across as genuine. I want to see Hillary be challenged in the Democratic primary. I’m not sold on her as our next president.

A populist, is she? She is a poster child for trading on the connections of her husband and her public offices to amass money and power.

Hillary is a populist?!?

If you have to have a “quest” or “convince” voters of what you stand for, they already don’t believe you.

Why not just have Warren carry the message without all the Clinton baggage, if they’re so similar? It couldn’t have anything to do with money, could it?

Populist fighters do not sit on the board of Walmart.
