McLEAN, VA Dec. 3 (DPI) – The law firm of Bean, Kinney & Korman of Arlington, Va., announced this week that its managing partner and his wife were continuing to recover from serious injuries sustained in a home invasion in which, police say, the spouse of a fired employee tortured the couple.

The firm also announced on its site this week that it was grateful to the state’s criminal justice system, which ruled that both 31-year-old Andrew Schmuhl and his wife, 30-year-old Alecia Schmuhl, would continue to be held without bail.  They face multiple charges. The Schmuhls were arrested on the Capitol Beltway shortly after the incident, which occurred Nov. 9. Andrew Schmuhl allegedly knocked on the door of the McLean, Va., home of Leo Fisher and his wife Susan Duncan, and proceeded to attack both of them in what police described to The Washington Post as a “torture session.” Alecia Schmuhl was reportedly outside the home nearby at the time of the attacks.

Alecia Schmuhl had been fired by Bean Kinney – the firm that Fisher has led for more than a decade – the previous month.

Bean Kinney, with more than 100 lawyers, has been one of the most prosperous Northern Virginia-based firms of the last generation, the beneficiary in part of the real estate boom of the region and of Arlington in particular. Fisher has been the firm’s managing shareholder for several years. The firm issued a statement on its site Monday:

The firm remains confident in the strength of the Commonwealth’s case against Alecia and Andrew Schmuhl, the facts of which underscore the need to assure that Leo, Sue and all firm employees remain safe and secure. This morning’s action by the Circuit Court denying bond to Ms. Schmuhl on her appeal of the earlier bond denial is an appropriate extension of the protection we realize from her continuing in custody.
